The McLeod County Talent Contest took place Sunday, August 21st at the Fairgrounds in Hutchinson. The talented competitors showed off their skills before an audience and three judges as they tried to win prizes and a trip to the Minnesota State Fair.
In the Preteen Category the third place winner was Gianna Arthur with her vocal solo “When Will My Life Begin”. Second place went to Breanna Fitzpatrick and her clog dance “South’s Gonna Do It Again”. Izabel Larson won first place and a chance to perform at the Minnesota State Fair with her song and dance to “Route 66”.
The competition in the Teen Category was fierce with 9 competitors. Elizabeth Vo and Ivy Nunbar sang a vocal duet while accompanying themselves on the piano and guitar to win third place. Matthew Landin’s piano solo “Playing With Fire In the 50”s won second place. The winner of the Teen division and a State Fair trip was Paige Huschka and her vocal and piano rendition of “Rolling In The Deep”.
The Open Category is open to any and all ages. Gabrielle Arthur won second place with her vocal solo “Time to Say Good-Bye”. Helena Nelson wowed the audience with a hula hoop routine to “Higher Ground” and took the coveted first place in the Open division. Helena and Gabrielle are representing other counties at the state fair so our lucky third place winner will be dancing for McLeod County. Danielle Enberg with her jazz dance “Honky Tonk Ba Donk-a-Donk will compete at the Minnesota State Fair.
Judges for the Show were Mona Hjerpe, Rhoda Hubbard-Anderson and Stacy Halter. Jim Fahey emceed and Larry Dostal and Dostal Electronics provided the sound.
