The Minnesota Lynx have found out who their first round playoff opponent will be. The Lynx will enter the 2011 WNBA Playoffs presented by Boost Mobile as the No. 1 seed, will open the playoffs on Friday, September 16 at home vs. San Antonio. Tip-off for Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CDT. Game 2 is Sept. 18th in San Antonio, while any game 3 would be in Minnesota on Sept. 20th. Minnesota swept the four-game regular season series from San Antonio. The Lynx’ first two wins came virtue of last-second shots, one by Lindsay Whalen with 1.5 seconds to play in a 70-69 victory on July 31 at San Antonio, the other by Taj McWilliams-Franklin with 1.3 seconds remaining that lifted Minnesota over the Silver Stars, 62-60, on Aug. 4 at home. The teams’ most recent meetings, a back-to-back set on Aug. 26 and 28, resulted in two victories for the Lynx, 85-75 at Target Center and 72-61 two nights later at AT&T Center. With one regular season game to play (Sunday at Phoenix), the Lynx have set franchise records for victories in a season (26), at home (14) and on the road (12). Minnesota is just the 10th team in league history to win at least 26 games in a season. The Lynx’ 12 road wins are one shy of the WNBA single-season record. Minnesota has played two home playoff games in its history, highlighted by a come-from-behind 74-72 win over the No. 1 seed and eventual WNBA Champion Los Angeles Sparks on Aug. 28, 2003. Katie Smith scored 23 points and Teresa Edwards handed out nine assists in that game, while Tamika Williams’ steal and layup with 7.4 seconds remaining provided the winning margin as the Lynx erased a 21-point, second-half deficit.
