The former head of the Carver County Republican Party faces 2 counts of 2nd-degree criminal sexual conduct over allegations that he inappropriately touched a girl under the age of sixteen.
36-year-old Paul Scott Zunker of Waconia resigned from his post this week after the accusations that he touched the victim on several occasions both over and under her clothing over the course of a year came to light.
The victim reportedly told him to “knock it off” or to “stop” according to authorities. Zunker would supposedly stop, but allegedly resumed the touching later.
He makes his first appearance in court on the charges today (Friday). If convicted, he faces up to 90 months in prison.
The Carver County Republican Party was expected to select a new chair Thursday to finish Zunker’s term.
