Stolen Hogs 20 Sep 11

Authorities are investigating the theft of 150 pigs reported stolen from a farm in southeast Minnesota.

The Nicollet County Sheriff’s Department was called Friday to a farm near the town of Lafayette. The owner of the farm told deputies that he had gone in to cull all the market-ready pigs from his barns, and found 150 animals missing, with an estimated market value of more than $30,000.

Investigators are also checking into the possibility that the theft is related to a break-in at another Nicollet County hog facility on August 14th and they also want to know if those responsible are the same crooks that stole nearly 600 pigs from an operation in Kandiyohi County.

Nicollet County investigators are working with deputies from Kandiyohi, where 590 pigs were stolen from a large livestock operation near Lake Lillian on August 15th. The value of those pigs is estimated at more than $100,000.

The Lake Lillian operation is owned by Ryan Bode and his father.

Livestock auction houses around the region are being warned to look out for anyone who may be trying to sell pigs that they have no documentation on.

Anyone who knows anything about any of these pig thefts is asked to call the authorities.
