Minnesota Vikings: Player Watch 23 Sep 11

DE Jared Allen (shoulder) had full participation in practice and will play on Sunday. Allen, who has an NFL-high 84.5 sacks since 2004, has dealt with shoulder issues in the past. He’s expected to play.

CB Chris Cook (groin) appears set to play Sunday, despite being limited in practice on Thursday. His injury was a big concern because he’s the nickel cornerback and will be seeing a lot of snaps against the Lions. Cook, who missed the second half of last week’s game, said he experienced tightness last week because he wasn’t hydrated well enough.

WR Percy Harvin missed practice on Thursday because of an illness. Harvin has battled migraines since he was 10 years old, but coach Leslie Frazier assured reporters that Harvin was not experiencing a migraine and that he would return to practice on Friday.

DL Everson Griffen will see more playing time because of the release of backup left end Adrian Awasom. Griffen, who had his first career sack last week, also debuted at tackle in the nickel defense. And he’s tied for second on the team in special teams tackles with three.

PR Marcus Sherels (chest) is on the injury report, but had full participation in Thursday’s practice. Sherels, an undrafted free-agent signing in 2009, won the punt return job during the preseason. He hasn’t done much with the opportunity, averaging 5.0 yards on four returns.

LB E.J. Henderson (knee) should play Sunday, despite being limited in practice on Thursday. Henderson was able to play last week after experiencing swelling in his left knee. He didn’t practice Thursday or Friday and was questionable, but played OK with six tackles, including one for loss.
