A 38-year-old Elk River man is in jail after stealing a car Wednesday and fleeing police.
According to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, a 27-year-old St. Michael woman told them that she sold her 1984 Chevrolet Camaro and later learned that the buyer paid with counterfeit $100 bills.
A deputy spotted the car on Minnesota Highway 24 in Clearwater at 10:25 p.m. The driver, Cory Donald Wojcik, failed to stop and a chase ensued for about 9 miles. The car, eventually disabled by spike strips, was stopped on Wright County Road 7 near CR 123. The driver then fled the vehicle on foot but was eventually taken into custody by the deputy.
Wojcik was booked into jail on charges of flee police in a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.
The incident remains under investigation.
