The body found Saturday in a cornfield northeast of Hector has been identified.
Renville County Sheriff Scott Hable announced late Monday the body is that of 56-year-old Robert J. Verdon of Cosmos.
In early September, the Renville County Sheriff’s Office located and recovered a vehicle belonging to Verdon, which had been found abandoned near the cornfield where his body was ultimately discovered.
Verdon’s family later filed a missing person report with the Sheriff’s Office in Meeker County, where Verdon resided.
Sheriff Hable says an autopsy was completed, but the official cause and manner of Verdon’s death are still pending,
The Renville County and Meeker County sheriff’s offices and the state Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are continuing to investigate.
The body was found Saturday by a farmer harvesting corn in Brookfield Township.
