Trooper Hits Deer 20 Oct 11

Even the Minnesota State Patrol isn’t safe when deer decide to jump out in front of a car.

The Patrol released both pictures and dash-cam video Wednesday of a trooper colliding with a deer Sunday night on Highway 15 south of Hutchinson. The deer jumped out from the left side of the road, and it’s head and antlers ended up going through the driver’s side windshield.

The trooper’s dashboard camera was destroyed. The trooper had only minor injuries.

Deer-vehicle crashes tend to pick up in October and November. According to a State Farm Insurance scale, Minnesota is one of the highest-risk states for deer collisions in the country, with drivers crashing into more than 33,000 deer in the past year.
