There’s a new hydrologist in the area.
Garry Bennett, the new area hydrologist for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, will be focusing in on the water resources of McLeod, Renville and Sibley counties.
Hydrologists help solve water quantity, quality and availability problems in society. Officials say it can be a complex task in Minnesota, with water being one of the state’s most precious natural resources.
Bennett says “I can be contacted for a wide range of questions related to public waters and water appropriation permitting,” and “I also will be working on public waters protection, water supply management and water quality studies.”
Prior to coming to this area, Bennett served as area hydrologist for the DNR in Thief River Falls for four years. He has also served as manager of the water testing lab for the city of Waseca. Bennett is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Duluth, with a degree in geology and an emphasis in hydrogeology.
Bennett will be located at the DNR office west of Hutchinson on Highway 7.
