G Ricky Rubio reached double-digit assists for the fourth time in his first 10 NBA games with Tuesday’s 13-point, 12-assist, five-turnover, four-rebound game against the Bulls and Derrick Rose for the first time. “He is one of the best players I have played against,” Rubio said about Rose. “He is one of the fastest guys I have ever played against.”
F Derrick Williams is getting more aying time. So far, Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman is figuring out a way, given that he still wants to play Williams at a power forward spot already occupied largely by Kevin Love. Williams played 30 minutes at Washington Sunday, 28 minutes at Toronto Monday, 22 at home against Chicago on Tuesday and is developing a rapport coming off the bench with fellow Ricky Rubio.
G Malcolm Lee has tweeted that he heals like movie superhero “Wolverine,” and said Tuesday he hopes to return to the court in late January after he underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus ligament in his left knee on Dec. 30.
G J.J. Barea sprained his ankle Tuesday after falling into the photographers on the baseline, and that came on top of the strained hamstring he just came back from on Monday in Toronto. He will be evaluated on Thursday to see if he’s able to practice and play Friday at New Orleans.
F Anthony Randolph followed Monday’s nine-point second quarter in Toronto with his best game so far this season, an 18-point, two-rebound, one-block game in 29 minutes. That’s his season high for minutes.
F Michael Beasley missed his third consecutive game because of a sprained right foot and likely will miss at least another week. He remains in a walking cast and still has swelling in that foot.
F Kevin Love has started the season with 10 consecutive double-doubles and he started right back up his streak of 20-point, 12-rebound games after it ended at eight games Monday in Toronto. He’s the only NBA player to record a double-double in every game this season. On Tuesday, he got there with a 20-point, 13-rebound night.
