Dayton Honors Ryberg’s Request 03 Feb 12

McKaia Ryberg is now a seventh grader at St. Mary’s School in Bird Island, and she and her classmates had the opportunity to play host to the governor of Minnesota today.

Two years ago the governor discovered Ryberg’s talents when she sang the national anthem at a Tim Orth Foundation event as a fifth-grader in 2010. She accepted his invitation to perform the anthem at both the governor’s inauguration and during a visit by President Obama in Minneapolis. When Dayton asked Ryberg what he could do for her, she requested that he visit her school. Today (Friday) the Governor honored that request.

Dayton spent about an hour at the school and attended a presentation where Ryberg and her classmates sang for him. He also spoke briefly to the students and public in attendance about how honored he was to be with them, and enjoyed a tour of the school after the event.
