Health officials suspect a norovirus outbreak is sickening students at Sibley East in Gaylord.
One-third of the elementary and junior high students were out sick Wednesday and Thursday with flu-like symptoms.
More than 150 students and a handful of staff from Sibley East Elementary School in Gaylord called in sick Wednesday morning, and a few dozen more left school early due to illness. Sympoms included nausea, vomiting and diarrhea that last about 24 hours.
Laura Reid with the Sibley County Health Department says an investigation by the Minnesota Department of Health is pointing toward a norovirus outbreak as the source however, test results will take about two weeks.
Staff thoroughly cleaned surfaces Wednesday and the self-service food line has been shut down.
