The butter made at the AMPI plant in New Ulm has been named the best in the world.

The cooperative’s salted butter scored a near-perfect score of 99.9% to earn a gold medal in the 2012 World Champion Cheese Contest in Madison Wisconsin.

AMPI’s mild cheddar made in their Blair, Wisconsin plant was named the best in the world as well, earning a gold medal with a score of 99.5%.

The biennial competition attracted more than 2,500 cheese and butter entries from around the world.
