An Olivia man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the death of his girlfriend’s 18-month-old daughter.
21-year-old Sergio Turrubiates Jr received his sentence for the 2nd-degree murder charge on Friday in Renville County Court.
Turrubiates claimed the toddler struck her head on a table when he was bouncing the child on a bed. Tiana Moore died of traumatic head injuries two days after he had been caring for her. Turrubiates later admitted to shaking the child, knocking a television onto her, then doing nothing to treat her injuries.
He will be given credit for the 465 days he has already spent in jail since his arrest. The sentence will be served concurrently with a 4-year sentence for a burglary in Redwood County.
