A variety of elements went into the latest county health rankings in Minnesota.
Minnesota Commissioner of Health, Doctor Ed Ehlinger, says counties were ranked in two categories: health outcomes and health factors.
He says 10% of an individual’s health is related to clinical care.
Steele, Carver and McLeod counties rank at the top of the list. Mahnomen, Cass and Traverse counties are at the bottom.
Doctor Ehlinger says that places that have more resources and more commitment to community engagement have better health outcomes.
Brown, Nicollet and Sibley Counties rank at 17th, 18th and 19th on the list, Blue Earth County is at number 29, Redwood is at number 43, Renville County is number 59, and Watonwan County is number 68 on the list.
