The University of Minnesota Extension is working towards updating the local food directory for the Meeker, McLeod, and Sibley County area.
Officials say the goal of the directory is to help consumers and schools purchase local foods in the surrounding areas.
The movement of utilizing fresh and local foods in school lunch programs has been an increasing trend across the nation. Many schools and institutions have already been utilizing local foods in their lunch programs through the Farm to School program or by starting school gardens.
County Extension officials are seeking out producers in Meeker, McLeod or Sibley County and are also seeking out those within 30 mile radius adjacent to these counties.
A brief questionnaire will be sent out to those interested. With the information, officials will be putting together a local food directory that can be distributed to consumers, schools, daycares, etc. that are potentially interested in purchasing local food to serve in their home or institutions.
Contact the McLeod County Extension Office at 320-484-4303 if you are interested in being part of this directory. Official ask that you reply by Friday, May 25th if your farm would like to participate.
