The Hutchinson City Council this week approved a motion allowing a request from Historic Hutchinson to continue with their plan to get the Harrington-Merrill House on the national historic register.
City Administrator Jeremy Carter says the request will be up for state review on May 22nd.
Hutchinson Mayor Steve Cook says some of the benefits of getting the designation are the notoriety of the designation itself and the ability to apply for and secure grants that will enable the continued renovation of the property.
Jim Fahey, with Historic Hutchinson, says the state review is the next step, and more than likely the final step, in getting on the national registry in that once state approval is given, the national designation will follow.
The Harrington-Merrill House is located at 225 Washington Avenue West.
