Gov’s Fishing Opener in Waconia 11 May 12

Governor Mark Dayton will travel to Waconia to celebrate the 2012 Governor’s Fishing Opener, the official start to the fishing season in Minnesota.

Governor Dayton will attend a community picnic in City Square Park on Friday evening. The event will feature food, activities for kids, live music, a speaking program featuring the governor and Lieutenant Governor Yvonne Prettner Solon. The event is free and open to the public—thousands of guests are expected to attend.

Governor Dayton will join other enthusiastic fisherwomen and fishermen in casting a line on Lake Waconia at 12:01am Saturday. Joining him will be fishing host Travis Frank, a professional angler and founder of Trophy Encounters Professional Guide Service.

On Saturday morning, Governor Dayton will officially kick-off the fishing season with a send-off ceremony at Lola’s Restaurant. After fishing again with host Travis Frank on Saturday morning, Governor Dayton will hold a short press availability at Lake Waconia Regional Park.
