Republican State Representative Dean Urdahl of Grove City voted in favor of building a new Vikings stadium to help preserve the Republican’s majority in the legislature. The Litchfield Independent Review reports that’s what he told a group of Meeker County Republican leaders Monday evening.
Urdahl was responding to criticism within the party over his stadium vote and became upset at a Meeker County Republican Party Executive Committee meeting in Litchfield’s Main Street Cafe.
Urdahl said “Was the Vikings bill the most important thing? No, it wasn’t!, but it was what the people wanted us to do.”
While standing, Urdahl slammed his hands on a table as he chastised fellow Republicans for calling Monday’s meeting to consider whether to withdraw the party’s endorsement for him.
Ultimately, Republican Executive Committee members voted overwhelmingly against a recommendation to withdraw the party’s endorsement, which Urdahl received at a convention in March.
