Darek Jon Nelson now faces the possibility of life in prison if convicted in the fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Vinessa Lozano on January 13th in Montevideo.
Chippewa County Attorney David Gilbertson says a grand jury returned an indictment for first-degee murder-premeditated to the District Court in Chippewa County.
The grand jury had been convened on Tuesday and handed down the indictment Wednesday.
The 24-year-old Nelson was arraigned Wednesday afternoon, at which time the court raised his bail from $750,000 to $1 million.
The court will now schedule a new trial on the first-degree murder charge.
The complaint alleges Nelson fatally stabbed Lozano as she left the Pizza Ranch at the end of her shift. He was a co-worker and was allegedly upset that she did not return his interest in her.
