The alliance of Park (Cottage Grove), Prior Lake and Stillwater Area high schools won the inaugural state robotics championship sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League and FIRST Minnesota, the statewide organization that conducts robotics competitions in the state.
In a best two-out-of-three championship final, the Park-Prior Lake-Stillwater Area alliance of robots and student handlers defeated the alliance of Bloomington Kennedy, Anoka and RiverBend Academy/Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial. The scores of the matches were 55-40 and 73-27.
The tournament was conducted Saturday, May 19, at Williams Arena on the University of Minnesota Minneapolis campus. Twenty-eight teams began the competition that led to the final four earning the opportunity to choose alliance partners for the semifinals and championship.
Locally, the Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart robotics team was among those competing.
