Hutchinson Looks at Nuisance Code Officer Position 13 Jun 12

The Hutchinson City Council last night (Tuesday) began discussion on whether the city should create a Nuisance Code Officer position to handle and enforce violations that fall under the nuisance ordinance.

Mayor Steve Cook and other council members are leaning toward creating the position internally using a current city employee, rather than hiring another employee and creating another position or creating additional cost.

City Administrator Jeremy Carter told the council that having a Nuisance Code Officer may require reductions, such as hours, in other city departments, in order nix any increase in city spending.

The council directed Carter to do an analysis on who may be able to do the job, how may hours would be required, and how the funding would possibly be shifted if they create such a position.
