The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down about 6 miles south-southwest of Belle Plaine Sunday night.
The tornado was on the ground for about 2 miles beginning at around 8:15pm. It was rated as a “weak” EF-0, with winds of up to 70 miles-per-hour.
Weather officials say that the tornado initially touched down in Le Sueur County and traveled northeast at about 50mph. It was reportedly on the ground in Le Sueur County for about a half-mile and in Scott County for about a mile and a half. It dissipated about 4 miles south-southeast of Belle Plaine after damaging some farm buildings and a grain bin.
No injuries have been reported.
