Hail Damage Meeting 21 Jun 12

An emergency meeting for farmers who have concerns about hail damage to their crops is taking place today (Thursday) in Lafayette.

The meeting was called after hail shredded corn stalks around the area during Tuesday’s early morning storms, leading to a 100% crop loss in some areas around Lafayette and near the Rush River.

There was also significant hail damage reported near Redwood Falls, Morgan, Franklin, Gibbon and Fairfax.

Nicollet County Extension Educator Christian Lillienthal says the emergency hail damage meeting begins at 2pm at the Lafayette Community Center, and will involve the options now available to farmers who suffered losses. Speakers include Extension Corn Agronomist Jeff Coulter, Extension Soybean Agronomist Seth Naeve, and Agronomy Extension Educator Dave Nicolai.

After the meeting, the public is invited to further discuss the hail damage at the nearby United Farmers Co-Op test plot, which also suffered damage.
