Senate Transportation Committee Chair Joe Gimse is not happy Governor Dayton decided to make Highway 14 a four-lane from North Mankato to Nicollet.
Gimse, a Republican from Willmar, says the governor’s decision short-circuits the process used by the state to determine the worthiness of projects. Gimse says the governor has decided Highway 14 can jump in line ahead of other projects.
Gimse also wonders where the state is going to come up with the $35 million dollars to pay for it. Gimse says the governor chosing what projects to fund is uncharted territory and sets the precedent of politicians picking winners and losers instead of the process of MnDot examining and approving each project on its merits.
