A New Ulm Wrestler has made the Olympic team months after losing in the finals. Ali Bernard was named to the team yesterday after Stephany Lee was suspended due to a positive drug test. Lee had swept Bernard in the 72 kilogram womens class in April at the Olympic Trials. Bernard finished 5th in the 2008 Olympics and finished 3rd in last years World Championships.

Also in Olympic Trials, Elliot Heath and Hassan Mead both of Minneapolis failed to make the US Track team. Heath finished 7th and Mead 8th in the 5,000 meter run. Gabriele Anderson of Perham made the Semi Finals in the womens 1,500 meter run, with the second fastest time of 4 minutes, 14.23 seconds. And in the Mens 1,500 meter run Will Leer of Minnetonka and Garrett Heath of Winona both advanced to the semi finals. Leer had the second fastest time overall, while Heath’s time was 5th.
