  • ·    The Royals lost three straight in Minnesota in a single season for the first time since September 6-8, 2010.
  • ·    Bruce Chen made his fifth career start at Target Field, tying him with Zack Greinke and Rick Porcello for most starts for an opposing player in this park…Chen is 0-2, 12.96 (8.1 ip, 12 er) in two starts at Target Field this season.
  • ·    Eric Hosmer (3-for-4) has hit safely in seven straight games, batting .423 (11-for-25) in that span…he has hit safely in 24 of his last 30 games after hitting safely in just 25 of his first 44 to start the season…he tied his season-high with three hits today.
  • ·    Irving Falu snapped an 0-for-16 with a fifth inning single…he had been hitless in five straight (May 25-June 30) after beginning the season hitting safely in nine straight games (May 6-22)…he set career-highs in both hits (three) and rbi (four).

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·    The Twins won their ninth series of the season and are now 9-14-3 in series play…the four home runs marked the most ever for the Twins in Target Field…it was their most home runs in a home game since hitting five, October 5, 2009 vs. Kansas City.
  • ·    The win gives Ron Gardenhire 899career managerial victories and a career record of 899-800…Tom Kelly is the only other Twins manager to reach 900.
  • ·    Francisco Liriano has struck out six-plus batters in six of his last seven starts.
  • ·    The Darin Mastroianni bunt hit was the 16th for the Twins this season…their 15 bunt hits entering today ranked second-best in the American League and tied for fourth-best in baseball…first career bunt hit for Mastroianni.
  • ·    17 of Trevor Plouffe’s 18 home runs this season have been hit in his last 37 games, since May 16…the two home runs today marked the 23rd and 24th solo home runs of his career (28 career home runs)…this season, 16 of his 18 home runs have been solo shots…second career two-homer game today.
  • ·    Justin Morneau’s sixth inning error was just his second of the season…his previous error was April 27 vs. Kansas City…the two errors now are his most in a season since committing three in 2009.
  • ·    Josh Willingham homered in consecutive games for the sixth time this season…he has hit 11 of his 17 home runs at Target Field this season…with 149 home runs he now needs one more homer to reach 150 for his career.
  • ·    Willingham and Plouffe have homered in the same game five times, since June 4.

  • ·    Joe Mauer was selected to his fifth All-Star game (2006, ’08, ’09, ’10), representing the American League as a reserve…it is his first honor since 2010 and second time he has been selected as a reserve (also in 2006)…Mauer is 2-for-8 with a double, an rbi, a run and a walk in his four previous All-Star Games.
