SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has signed free-agent C Jake Dowell to a two-year contract.
Dowell, 27 (3/4/85), tallied seven points (2-5=7) and 53 penalty minutes (PIM) while averaging 7:38 time on ice (TOI) in 52 games with the Dallas Stars last season. Dowell played a career-high 79 games with Chicago in 2010-11, recording 21 points (6-15=21) while skating 11:49 TOI/game. The 6-foot, 202-pound native of Eau Claire, Wisc., has played 154 NHL games over five seasons with Chicago and Dallas, totaling 33 points (11-22=33) and 133 PIM. Dowell was Chicago’s fifth-round pick (No. 140 overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Dowell played four seasons at the University of Wisconsin – three with Wild defenseman Tom Gilbert – winning a national championship in 2006.
