The McLeod Emergency Food Shelf is in need of donations this month. Officials say since April 1st, more than 82,000 pounds of food has been distributed. This is more than was collected in the month of March during the food drive. The usage has been increasing every month in comparison to the corresponding month a year ago. So far this year, they have given 1,973 distributions. With summer here, and children out of school, these needs will increase.
The McLeod Emergency Food Shelf is now having to purchase most of the food they distribute.
Officials say you can help by donating food or cash to the food shelf during July. The food shelf has applied for a grant from the Open Your Heart for the Homeless and Hungry Challenge Grant. The challenge funds will be a proportional match with a minimum grant being $100 and the maximum allowable $4,000. The amount the food shelf would receive will be determined by the amount of cash and food received during the month of July, so your help at this time will give your dollar greater value.
The Hutchinson food shelf hours are M-F 9:00 – Noon. If you are not able to drop off items during those hours, you can bring them to the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce Office, which will serve as a collection point.
