A 45-year-old Raymond woman was sentenced Monday to nearly 5 years in prison for a 2010 crash south of Litchfield that claimed the lives of two people. The sentence was stayed for 180 days in the county jail, 200 hours of community work service and 10 years of probation on two felony charges of criminal vehicular homicide or operation. Ronda Lynn Malvin was also ordered to pay $1,500 in fines and $1,021 in restitution as part of her sentence handed down in Meeker County District Court. As part of a plea agreement, six additional felony charges were dismissed.
Malvin pleaded guilty to the two charges on May 8 and admitted that she attempted to brake during icy road conditions and lost control, causing the vehicle to enter the oncoming lane of traffic and setting off a three-car collision. Two passengers in her vehicle, 44 year old Kimberly Mead of Willmar, and 55 year old Barbara Wold of Spicer, died as result of injuries suffered in the crash.
