Fairfax illustrator wins award for her book 26 Jul 12

A Fairfax artist has won two awards for her Children’s book illustrations. Jana Niemela won the awards after illustrating the book “Night-A counting backwards book”. Niemela is a graduate of Ridgewater College in Hutchinson and has worked in graphic design and publishing plus has been a freelance illustrator since 2008. The New Ulm Journal reportsThe author of the book is Melissa Henderson of rural Layfayette and the duo both saw their book up for a few awards. “Night” won the 2011 Moonbeam Children’s Book Silver Award and was also a Book of the Year Finalist in 2012. The book is a bedtime story for children that portrays a peaceful image of night while teaching kids to count backwards.
