Two area natives are headed into the Concordia St. Paul Hall of Fame. Former Football Player Andrew Fleischman of Lester Prairie and former football coach and Athletic Director Dan O’Brien of Winthrop will be inducted during homecoming ceremonies on October 5th. In a news release on their website Concordia says the two will be a part of the 11th class of inductees into their school hall of fame.
Fleischmann was named the schools male athlete of the year in 2001, was a senior team captain in football, and was an all region honoree among other football accolades. Fleischmann also earned three letters in baseball during his time with the Bears and after graduation played Pro Arena Football with Sioux Falls. Currently Fleischmann is the successful coach of the Edgerton Public Schools 9-man football team, winning the state title last season.
For O’Brien he helped the college spearhead their move from the NAIA, to the NCAA in 1999. During the transition, O’Brien helped spearhead the creation of the Golden Bear mascot and logo along with the University’s first athletic booster club. After leaving Concordia, O’Brien was named director of athletics at Hamline University in St. Paul and is now the director of football operations for the University of Minnesota.
