Cokato Corn Carnival 13 Aug 12

The 63rd Annual Cokato Corn Carnival will be Monday through Wednesday, August 13 – 15, 2012. A number of activities are planned to provide enjoyment and entertainment for the entire family in the heart of downtown Cokato, at Peterson Park.

Events begin on Sunday, August 12, with a community-wide ecumenical worship service at 7:00 p.m. on the main stage in Peterson Park.

Monday, August 13 brings the parades and stage entertainment. The Kiddie parade begins at 6:00 p.m. In a change from previous years for the Kiddie parade, there are no formal categories—entrants are encouraged to be as creative as they want. Just be mindful that no motorized vehicles–including riding lawn mowers–are permitted. All Kiddie Parade participants will receive participation prizes. The main parade will follow immediately after the conclusion of the Kiddie parade.

Following the conclusion of the parades will be entertainment by Jonathan Rundman on the main stage, sponsored by the Cokato Ministerial Association. The food stands and midway rides in the park will also be open Monday evening. Please note that there will be no free corn-on-the-cob served Monday evening.

Activities for Tuesday begin at noon when the midway and rides open. Food stands will also be open beginning in the afternoon. Registration for the children’s prize drawings runs from noon to 3:00 p.m., with drawings at 3:15 p.m. You must be present to win the Children’s Prize drawing. Information stands and button sales begin at 12:30 p.m. Bingo starts at 1:30 p.m. The Friends of the Cokato Library will host their annual book sale from 2 – 7 p.m. in the Centennial Room of the library/museum building. Free corn-on-the-cob is served from the Corn Stand from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. The culmination of the day will be the 65th Annual Miss Cokato Coronation ceremony, on the main stage, beginning at 8:00 p.m. Seven candidates are vying for the title of Miss Cokato and two princesses. Introduction of visiting royalty, farewells from reigning royalty, and the crowning of the 2012-13 royalty are part of the ceremony. Ending the day is the drawing for the four $100 prizes at 10:00 p.m.

Wednesday’s activities also begin in the afternoon with the children’s prize drawings, button sales, bingo, midway and rides, and food stands. Registration for the children’s prize drawings runs from noon to 3:00 p.m., with drawings at 3:15 p.m. From 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. local dance students entertain on the stage. The Cokato Library book sale continues also, from 2 – 7 p.m. Free corn-on-the-cob runs again from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Wednesday evening’s entertainment schedule begins with the Mid Minnesota Concert Band at 7:00 p.m. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the band, so a special show is planned. Beginning at 8:00 is Divas Through the Decades, a fun and energetic look at some of the most well-known female vocalists of the last seven decades. The finale of the carnival arrives at 10:00 p.m., Wednesday, with the drawing for the cash prizes ($1000, $1500, and $2500; along with seven $50 alternate prizes) and the separate drawing for 2012 Chevrolet Cruze.

Carnival attendees are eligible for the cash prize drawings and the free corn-on-the-cob, served from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday by purchasing an official Corn Carnival button for only $3.
