Just before 12:30 Saturday afternoon, the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office received a report of shots being fired at a farm south of Hutchinson.
In addition to the McLeod County Sheriff’s Department, six other law enforcement agencies were called in to assist.
Authorities say the suspect, 46-year-old Ryan Earl Hartman of Darwin, had been staying at the residence. He was eventually taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale for treatment of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and was listed in critical condition.
Authorities say an initial shot was fired, which apparently was a warning that had to do with the suspects relationship to others living at the residence. A couple of hours later, Hartman apparently shot himself. No one else was injured.
The Sheriff’s Office says Hartman had been wanted on assault charges.
