A fire in Olivia Sunday night gutted the building that housed the Renville County Food Shelf, The Red Cross Office, a thrift store and an apartment.
Olivia Fire Chief Tim Seehusen says they believe the fire was intentionally set.
Fire crews were called to the building on West Depew Avenue at 8:30 p.m. and when they arrived flames were shooting out the door. They were assisted by the Bird Island and Danube Fire Departments. Seehusen says the state fire marshal’s office was called and determined the fire was the result of arson.
A man who lived in the apartment upstairs escaped unharmed. An official with the Renville County Foodshelf says they will remain closed until they are able to reopen in a temporary site.
