ROYALS NOTES:

  • ·    The Royals are hitting .322 (96-for-298) in their last eight games against the Twins…they hit .317 (38-for-120) in this series.

  • ·    Tonight marked the Twins sixth walk-off victory of the season…second walk-off hit for Span in 2012, the other being June 17 vs. Milwaukee (15 innings).
  • ·    The Twins improved to 6-3 in extra-innings this season.
  • ·    Liam Hendriks made his 17th career start tonight and remains winless in the Major Leagues…he ties Craig Anderson (1962-64) and Jason Hammel (2006-07) for third-most starts to begin a career without a win.
  • ·    Josh Willingham hit his first home run since August 30 vs. Seattle…he now has 22 career home runs in Target Field (one as an opponent) and is two away from tying Jim Thome (24 – three as an opponent) for most home runs in the park’s history.
  • ·    Willingham becomes just the sixth different Twin to reach 34 home runs, joining Killebrew (eight times), Allison, Gaetti, Hrbek and Morneau…only Killebrew and Allison have ever reached 35.
  • ·    Trevor Plouffe hit his seventh home run off Royals pitching in his career, which is his most versus any opponent.
  • ·    Willingham and Plouffe homered in the same game for the eighth time this season.
  • ·    Justin Morneau (1-for-3) is hitting .339 (21-for-62) in his last 19 games and .322 (78-or-242) in his last 64.
