A Stewart man is dead after a one-vehicle crash northeast of Stewart Thursday morning.

86-year-old Bert Statema died at the scene.

McLeod County authorities say his passenger, Kathleen Marie Statema was taken to HCMC for treatment.

Authorities say the crash happened just after 11:30 Thursday morning in the area of County Road 7 and 100th Street.

Apparently the vehicle left the roadway and hit a power pole.

McLeod Coop Power was called in to shut down electricity to the pole to aid emergency crews as they worked the scene.
