TIGERS NOTES:

  • ·    The Tigers have won eight of their last 12 games…they improve to 9-8 against the Twins this season and 6-2 at Target Field.
  • ·    Justin Verlander tossed 7.0 innings today allowing just one run (unearned) on four hits, giving him an ERA of 0.64 (28.0 ip, 2 er) in his last four starts.
  • ·    Miguel Cabrera went 1-for-4 today and is now hitting .327…he has 199 hits and is just one shy of becoming the 21st player in Tigers history to record at least 200 hits during a season.
  • ·    Cabrera hit his 43rd home run this season, he entered today tied with Josh Hamilton for the most in baseball…he also extended his lead in rbi with 136.
  • ·    Prince Fielder (1-for-4) hit his 29th home run of the season in the second inning and his first home run in Target Field this season…he is now hitting .455 (10-for-22) in his last six games against the Twins.
  • ·    Jhonny Peralta’s (1-for-4) double in the second inning snapped an 0-for-15 streak against the Twins, dating back to September 22…he has hit safely in six of his eight games at Target Field.
  • ·    Quintin Berry (1-for-4) extended his hitting streak against the Twins to four games…he is batting .333 (12-for-36) against the Twins this season.
  • ·    Andy Dirks (2-for-4) hit his eighth home run of the season in the eighth inning, setting a new career-high.

TWINS NOTES: ­

  • ·    The Twins snapped their three-game winning streak against the Tigers and are now 8-9 against them this season…the Twins are 2-3 this homestand.
  • ·    Walters faced the Tigers for the second consecutive time, allowing three runs on nine hits in 11.0 innings (2.45 ERA) in those two starts.
  • ·    Casey Fien allowed two home runs in the eighth inning, his most in a game this season.
  • ·    Joe Mauer went 0-for-3 today with two walks, lowering his batting average to .320…he entered today second in the AL behind Cabrera.
  • ·    Ben Revere recorded the team’s first hit of the game in the fourth inning with a single to center field…he is now batting .343 (24-for-70) against the Tigers this season.
  • ·    Revere stole his 39th base in the fourth, moving him into sole possession of seventh on the Twins all-time single season steals list…next is Rod Carew’s 1973 total of 41.
  • ·    Trevor Plouffe snapped an 0-for-18 streak in the fifth inning with a double…his previous hit came September 23 at Detroit, singling in the sixth inning.
  • ·    Ryan Doumit hit his fourth career grand slam, his first since May 4, 2011 with Pittsburgh…it was also the Twins second grand slam of the season, previous one hit by Mauer September 1 at Kansas City in game two of the day’s doubleheader…Doumit has the Twins last eight RBI.
  • ·    Justin Morneau struck out three times today, marking it his third game this season doing so, the previous times coming on April 15 vs. Texas and September 22 at Detroit…his career-high is four strikeouts done twice, last May 9, 2010 vs. Baltimore.
  • ·    Today’s attendance of 32,839 increased the season total to 2,743,800…through 80 home dates, Target Field’s average is now 34,298.
