A Cokato man was arrested and faces several charges after leading police on a high-speed chase Friday that started south of St. Augusta, wound through the heart of St. Cloud and ended when the driver crashed in Sauk Rapids.
Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner tells the St. Cloud Times that Stearns County deputies, the State Patrol and St. Cloud, Sauk Rapids and Sartell police departments were involved in the chase, which started just after 10 a.m. and ended with four Stearns squad cars damaged.
The suspect, a 32-year-old man, was arrested after the vehicle he was driving crashed on the ramp that leads from northbound Minnesota Highway 15 to Benton Drive in Sauk Rapids. There were no injuries.
A Stearns deputy on routine patrol spotted the 2002 Jaguar that the suspect was driving and ran a license plate check. Sanner says the check showed that the registered owner’s driving privileges had been revoked
A deputy tried to stop the vehicle but it sped away.
The driver ended up on Minnesota Highway 15 and was exiting at the Benton Drive exit when a pursuing vehicle used a maneuver that disabled the suspect’s Jaguar.
Sanner says the suspect has numerous outstanding warrants.
