Fireworks May Have Caused Meeker County Fire 15 Oct 12

An estimated 250 acres of slough, grass and wooded area was destroyed by fire Friday night and Saturday off Meeker County Road 34 in Harvey Township.

The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office Says five fire departments were called in to fight the blaze, which was reported to have been caused by fireworks.

The fire was reported at 9:45 p.m. Friday and according to the Sheriff’s Office, the caller said cattails were on fire near County Road 34 about four miles north of Litchfield and was caused by fireworks being shot off into the cattails.

Authorities say charges may be filed pending the investigation.
