A New Auburn man with outstanding McLeod and Sibley County warrants was arrested and taken to jail last week after apparently using a storage unit in Hutchinson for a “hideout” of sorts.
Hutchinson police say they received information Thursday that the man’s girlfriend had locked the suspect inside one of the storage compartments at Hutchinson Self Storage in the 400 block of School Road North, evidently to keep police from arresting him.
On arrival, police found the storage unit unlocked, so they opened the door, where they found the girlfriend on a mattress. When asked where the suspect was, she said she didn’t know. Police say he was located in the unit hiding under some blankets.
22-year-old Damian John Ristau was arrested on a McLeod County felony firearms violation, booked, and taken to the McLeod County Jail. He also had an outstanding warrant for bad checks out of Sibley County.
