Paynesville may be getting a new Police Chief soon.

KWLM reports the Paynesville city council has offered the job of police chief to Paul Wegner who has been a police sergeant in Madelia.

If Wegner passes a background check and physical and psychological exams, he will take over for Kent Kortlever, who resigned in March.

Officer Bruce Elfering has been filling in as chief in the interim.
