Changes Will Affect Workers in New Ulm 26 Oct 12

Kraft Foods has announced upcoming changes to its New Ulm plant, which could affect as many as 90 positions.

The New Ulm plant is one of three plants that will be affected throughout 2013 as the company works to consolidate product lines and increase efficiency.

In New Ulm, the company will be adding $25-million worth of new packaging equipment and related infrastructure, but will discontinue the production of Velveeta processed cheese.

Kraft expects to eliminate the equivalent of 80 full-time hourly workers and 10 salaried positions at the New Ulm plant however, company officials say the majority of those reductions will reportedly be done through early retirement incentives and attrition.
