Importance of School Emergency Plans 17 Dec 12

In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings in Connecticut, school officials in Minnesota are taking a closer look at safety protocols.

Wade Setter with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says that while it’s important for schools to have emergency plans in place, it’s also essential that the plans are practiced, so that when the lockdown signal is given in a school–the staff, students and others within the facility know what to do to react.

Setter says in spite of the fact that 20 children and six adults were killed in the Sandy Hook shootings, the lockdown enacted at the school likely saved many lives.
