Eden Prairie, MN (January 3, 2013) – The Minnesota Vikings offensive line received the Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award for Week 17, marking the 3rd time in 2012 the group has earned the honor. The Vikings rushed for 217 yards on 34 carries and allowed only 1 sack in the playoff-clinching win over Green Bay in the final week of the regular season.
The Vikings offensive line, who had the same 5 starters in all 16 games, also won the award in Weeks 10 and 14. The group paved the way for the 2nd highest rushing total for a team in 2012 and tied the franchise record for rushing yards with 2,634 yards. Additionally the Vikings led the League with a 5.4 yard per carry average.
The 2012 Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award winner will be announced during the week of Super Bowl XLVII, which will be played on February 3, 2013 in New Orleans. Past Madden Most Valuable Protectors Award recipients include the New Orleans Saints (2009, 2011) and the New England Patriots (2010).
