Winsted Lake in McLeod County has been temporarily closed to motor vehicle traffic due to deteriorating ice conditions, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
The DNR urges the public to exercise extreme caution if using the lake, especially in the area near the aeration system. Ice thicknesses in that area may be less predictable than in other parts of the lake.
Officials say it’s expected to be a temporary closure. Once ice thicknesses have stabilized, the lake will be reopened to motor vehicle traffic.
Information on ice safety can be found at www.mndnr.gov/safety/ice/index.html or by calling the DNR Information Center, 651-296-6157 (888-646-6367 toll free) between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Winsted Lake is located at the edge of downtown Winsted and covers 382 acres.
