Authorities have identified the victim of an apartment fire in Olivia on Thursday as 64-year-old Billy Eugene Camper of Olivia. He was identified Friday afternoon as the victim found deceased in his first-floor apartment shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday.
According to Olivia Police Chief Derek Lee, the cause of his death is pending the receipt of final laboratory results from the Midwest Medical Examiner’s office in Anoka County.
The state fire marshal was at the scene Friday to determine the cause of the fire at the Westcourt Apartment complex, which was confined to the victim’s first-floor apartment.
On arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from one apartment and discovered the body after the fire was extinguished.
The fire was contained to the one apartment of the 16-apartment building, but 15 more apartments suffered smoke damage and 15 people were temporarily displaced from their homes.
