Three men from the Twin Cities were able to walk to shore after their vehicle broke through the ice early Tuesday morning on Lake Koronis near Paynesville.
The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office says a St. Paul man was driving an SUV on the lake around 5:30 a.m. on the northeast side of the lake when the vehicle broke through the ice.
The water in the area where the vehicle went through the ice is about 3 to 4 feet deep. The driver and two passengers were not injured.
The Sheriff’s Office is reminding citizens that the ice is never 100 percent safe and great care should be taken when driving a vehicle on ice, as ice conditions can change rapidly.
