A former Hutchinson woman who admitted to pinching the nose of her 5-month-old son to stop him from breathing has been sentenced to 120 days in jail and 3 years of probation for the crime.
A 1-year prison sentence for 25-year-old Katie Elaine Lewis was stayed for 3 years as part of her sentencing Wednesday, as well after she pleaded guilty to domestic assault by strangulation in December.
The incident occurred last May at Children’s Hospital in St. Paul.
Lewis was caught on surveillance video suffocating her child after bringing him in for testing because he was having problems breathing. A nurse reportedly saw Lewis pinch the child’s nose shut while also covering his mouth.
Lewis was also ordered to attend mental health counseling, parenting classes, and may have no contact with the victim.
