Plans for building a new roundabout south of Hutchinson are moving forward.
The City Council Tuesday night approved the letting and advertising for bids on the project that, if all goes well, should be completed and opened for traffic by the time the McLeod County Fair opens this fall.
City Engineer Kent Exner says the roundabout, at Highway 15 and Airport Road, would be 154 feet in diameter, which is larger that the roundabout north of Hutchinson, but a bit smaller than the roundabouts east of Hutchinson on Highway 7. Exner says sewer and water lines will be installed under Airport Road during construction, as well as improved lighting in that area and trail work north, from the roundabout to Culver’s Restaurant. Resurfacing of Highway 15 from that area south to Highway 212 will also take place at that time.
Exner says construction will begin in late May.
